Who I am

The daughter who had to figure it out three times at once

I am Lauren. I am doing this right now, for a great-aunt who is 99, a stepfather who is 96, and a mother who is 87, while running a company. Powers of attorney, care coordination, and estate planning for three people at the same time, in one family, in one state.

I have sat in the discharge meeting. I have been refused at a bank counter holding a valid, notarized power of attorney. I have learned what observation status means the way most families learn it, which is from a bill that arrives weeks later.

What I kept looking for was a sequence. Try this, then this, and here is why it comes in that order. I never found one, so I built it out of the notes I was already keeping.

What I am not

I am not a lawyer, a doctor, a nurse, a social worker, or a licensed care manager. Nothing on this site is medical, legal, or financial advice. Where you need a licensed professional, I say so and help you find one.

What I bring instead

Two things. The first is lived experience that is current rather than remembered, because I am in the middle of it as I write. The second is an operator's habit. I have built and sold one company and built another, and what I am good at is taking a mess that other people experience as chaos and turning it into a process with dates on it. That is the skill this situation actually needs and nobody is applying to it for families.

How this is funded, in plain terms

By the three paid offerings on the work with me page, and by nothing else. Specifically:

  • No referral fees. Not from senior living communities, not from agencies, not from attorneys, not ever.
  • No paid listings. A provider cannot buy their way into the directory.
  • No selling or sharing your information. Nobody will call you because you read something here.
  • No affiliate links in the guides.

That decision costs real revenue, and it is the entire reason this site can tell you that staying home, adult day programs, and doing nothing yet are legitimate options. A service paid on placement cannot say that.

Why the whole roadmap is free

Because the sequence is the thing families cannot get anywhere, and putting it behind a payment would recreate the problem I built this to solve. If you use the roadmap, sign the documents, and never pay me anything, that is a success by the only measure I care about.
